About the same time that this blog was created, we started a Facebook group as well. It's called, "Bag Ladies Strike Again."

It seems that that is a more popular forum for sharing projects and comments, so please join us over at Facebook, where you will find more regular updates than here on the blog. I won't delete the blog since there are some fun projects in the archives on here, but there won't be as many new ideas as you will find if you jump over to Facebook!

New Shorts!

The other day, my daughter and I were out on a date. First, she got her hair done at Tangles Hair Design. Then we went over to Fabricland... but I didn't have anything in mind to buy. I thought, why not let E choose some fabric? So... she did! And today, I made her a pair of shorts.

These are the 2 patterns that E chose. I have cut out the pieces for the second pair, but have only sewed one so far.

Here's what I did....

For a pattern, I took an old pair of shorts that my Granny made, and traced them slightly larger. Really technical so far, eh?! She sewed the shorts in 4 pieces, plus 2 pockets, so that's what I did, too.

And the new pair...

After the shorts were all basically put together, I used my flute cleaning rod to feed the elastic through the tunnel I made in the shorts waist.

E is a bit of a poser, so when I asked her to show me her shorts, and these are a few of the poses she gave me!

She loves her new shorts, and they only took about an hour to make in total. The second pair will go even faster.

All People Quilt Patchwork Bag

I started this bag almost a month ago when we had our last Bag Ladies sewing night. I finally got it put together on Monday.

I love the bag. I love how it is all co-ordinated since I used Moda's Chocolat fabric(I'm hoarding some of that too lol)

Nice and roomy inside with a lots of pockets

Last night a group of us got together at Rhonda's Mom's place (which is where I work part time) for a bag making party! It was great fun, despite the sweltering heat. We made these simply adorable reversible tote bags. Thank you, Cindy at Skip to My Lou for such a clear, easy to follow tutorial!

We're all looking forward to the next time we can get together to do this again! Hopefully next time a few more chicks will be able to join us as well. (helloooo Madlyn, Andrea, & Kim!!)

Today I think I'll make a couple of cute book bags for my niece & nephew. 'Can't wait to see them tomorrow, the adorable little sweetie pies!

This is so neat! Michelle Vandepol, a mom I met at the school, wrote an article for the local newspaper about our Bag Ladies group. You can read it here!

Michelle has also written a novel, Mother Mexico, and I understand she is working on another one.

{ quilts and more strikes again }

She doesn't know it yet, but Rhonda and I have started a quarterly tradition. The day the latest Quilts and More magazine arrives at Safeway, Rhonda will come over for an all night sewing session and we will make one of the projects from the magazine. Last night we did just that!

This Swing Bag pattern caught my eye so we both decided to make it. Little did we know (for lack of pre-reading the instructions) that the bag is actually quite small. The picture of it in the magazine was very deceiving since either the model is child size or they made their magazine sample a lot larger that the instructions say. Anyway, it's an adorable bag even if it's only 9" x 10". I love that there's only one strap. The bag is fully lined with dark brown fabric... the same fabric I used for the strap. It is interlined with batting to give the bag some shape.

Now my task is to tweak this pattern to make the bag about double that size, box the bottom, and have it so the turning hole (or whatever you call it) is inside the lining rather than right at the top of the bag.

Bag Night #2

The first bag night was so fun, so we decided to all get together for another Bag Ladies night. This time it was at my house, and with some new faces, too! Click on the pics if you want to see them larger.

Here are a few of the highlights of the night, and all the sewing that was accomplished...

Here's one bag I made... for my son's piano lesson books.

This is another simple bag, but I liked the idea of using alternating squares on the outside. The inside of the bag takes on the recycling motto... reuse! I lined the inside of the bag with the fabric from an old pair of my jeans!

late night sewing

I wandered down the street to Cindy's place. The new Quilts and More magazine had been released earlier in the month and we had plans to make the Swing Bag.

I do love how this turned out; just not happy with how small it is. I think some funky photographing was done in taking the magazine picture or the model they used was very tiny. We did change the strap from webbing to a single fabric strap; I like the look of the fabric strap better.

I'm debating about selling this bag. Or maybe I'll keep it for carrying around my favorite book

bags and more bags

I think I have stumbled onto a new and very fun addiction, bag making. I made this one for my cousin for her birthday. It was really quick and easy to put together and I absolutely love how it turned out. And so did she.

There is a outer pocket and on the one inside, I sewed in dividers. I opted out of doing the zippered pocket; zippers are evil lol!

Bag Night

In July some of the Ladies Who Lunch got together at work to do some bag making.

We all decided to make this bag

I apparently was making measuring mistakes all night-note how my two bags are NOT the same size lol

Than it was suggested we take a *funky* picture. So I laid on the floor for it. I was laughing so hard I'm surprised the picture turned out. Plus I was falling over

Hello,

Wow, it's been a busy/fun weekend around here! On Friday evening Sarah invited a group of friends over to sew the night away. We all worked on different bags. While we were sewing Marcia came up with the great idea to start a Facebook group called Bag Ladies Strike Again. It's an open group and you are more than welcome to join!! I hope to see you there. We'll be sharing links to free online bag & other sewing & quilting patterns as well as our favorite recipes, etc. Should be lots of fun!!
